大卫·林奇的抒情之作，没有被观众熟知的精神分析，但以一位老人的视角回看美国历史进程，以及眼下时代的现状。一次公路之行，完成人到暮年的和解，集尽柔情，也展现的非常细腻。但问题在于《史崔特先生的故事》中不论是描绘的情感，还是讲述的故事，在美国创作语境之下，多少都或许大众化了一些。导演也很难再在这反复被提及的社会背景下，挖掘到更多更新的切入点。对于大卫·林奇来说，这部片子还是太过柔软又平淡了些。
